Import and Transportation Manager

Job Description

JDE USA is seeking to expand their team with a Manager of Import and Transportation role, reporting to the Director, Logistics and Transportation. The role is responsible for two critical areas -1) Import of goods and 2) Leading the sourcing and negotiation of inbound freight suppliers and outbound ground/air freight carriers. For the import of goods, you will be the first point of contact for inbound goods flow and responsible for communication, coordination of air, ocean, truck, couriers, or any other services needed in the import and transportation of our goods. For transportation, you will be responsible for creating quote packages, sending to carriers, and negotiating best rates for inbound containers and service providers and for outbound trucking to customers from our 3PL locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead import and outbound transportation sourcing and negotiations to best serve our company and customers in the most time efficient and cost-effective manner.
  • Identification of new carriers and processes to continually leverage our category spend and reduce our total cost of transportation. 
  • Arrange and coordinate inbound operations relating to delivery schedules of overseas imports from manufacturing partners and inbound/outbound materials/components from domestic suppliers into our 3PL partners.
  • Proactively work to resolve all shipping exceptions while goods are in transit and determine alternate routes depending on vessel and port capacities, space limitations, and delays.
  • Manage all required documentation for all inbound logistics.
  • Work with Domestic LTL and truckload services (outbound domestic truck transportation), to ensure client deliveries meet promised service levels and cost.
  • Monitor and measure transportation partners, arrival notice turnover, customer brokerage and on-time delivery.
  • Monitor, track, and update systems for status and proactively communicate to internal/external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain a transportation dashboard to include key metrics such as transportation trends, spend analysis, volume, outlook, SLA, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field. Min of 8 years in logistics and import coordination.
  • Working/Proven knowledge and adherence to global trade regulations. Experience in international shipping of food products.
  • Effectively listen and communicate clearly to team members and vendors of status information and service requirements.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and flexible/comfortable with shifting priorities.
  • Proven knowledge with customs documents, pre-dispatch materials, HTS codes and other import requirements.
  • Attention to detail and well organized.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Works well with deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel.
